Laparoscopic excision of Bilateral Adrenal Pheochromocytoma

Image
Laparoscopic excision of Bilateral Adrenal Pheochromocytoma Tumours of the adrenal gland, other than neuroblastoma, are extremely rare in children. Pheochromocytomas are catecholamine secreting tumors derived from the adrenal gland which presents with symptoms of palpitation, sweating and headache. A 12 year old boy was admitted in emergency with c/o abnormal limb movements and severe headache. He was evaluated and was found to have high blood pressure. The child was stabilized and BP was controlled. The child was then evaluated and CECT abdomen/MIBG scan were suggestive of Bilateral Pheocromocytoma. The child underwent Laparoscopic bilateral adrenalectomy after adequate preoperative preparation. The child is on regular follow up with normal blood pressure. Pheochromocytomas are rare adrenal functioning tumors. They need extensive preoperative evaluation and management.  Minimal access surgery  has many advantages in the management. It minimises intraopertaive and posto...

Endourology

Endourology   is that branch of urology in which small internal endoscopes and instrumentation are used to see into the urinary tract and perform surgery. The branch deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the genitourinary tract, urinary bladder, and urethra.   Endourology treatments   are decided upon the patient’s age and disease severity. Cystoscopy  allows the surgeon to look into the bladder’s lining and the urethra. A hollow tube, also known as a cystoscope, is inserted into the urethra and slowly pushed up into the bladder. It is a multi-purpose serving method as it can help diagnose bladder diseases and also treat them. D J stenting D J stenting stands for “Double J Stent.” It is used to manage urinary obstructions commonly. It is a small tube that is placed in the path between the kidney and the bladder. The shape looks like a ‘J’ and a mirrored ‘J’ on the bottom. D J stenting keeps the ureter open all the time and helps it dilate. It also flushes ...

Vesicoureteral Reflux Causes, Symptoms And Treatments

Vesicoureteral Reflux Causes, Symptoms And Treatments Kidneys are important organ for urine formation. Normally, urine flows into the bladder through ureters. However, in some children, urine from the bladder flows back through the ureters. This condition is known as  Vesicouretral reflux (VUR)  and is common in infants and children. It can be unilateral or bilateral.  This could cause infections and damage your kidneys. VUR affects about 10% of children.   Although most can grow out of this condition, people who have severe cases may need surgery to protect their kidneys. This condition should not be ignored as it damages the function of kidneys and can lead to high blood pressure later in life. The risk of kidney damage is greatest during the first 6 years of life. Causes of VUR: A flap valve is located where the ureter joins with the bladder. Usually, the valve allows only a one-way flow of urine from the ureters to the bladder. Sometımes, a defective flap ...

Phimosis Treatment In Delhi

What is Phimosis? Phimosis is defined as inability to retract prepuce. Non retractile foreskins are common among young boys and is a part of normal preputial development. Prepuce of new born is non retractile and at the age of 3 years up to 10% remain non-retractile. It has been seen that 8% of boys at the age of 6 years and 1% at the age of 16 years still had non-retractile foreskin. The foreskin gradually becomes retractile secondary to intermittent erections and keratinization of the inner epithelium. That is most of the prepuce becomes retractile by adulthood. It is important to understand that most of these phimosis are physiological and does not require any surgical intervention. What is difference between Pathological and physiological phimosis? It is important to differentiate true pathologic phimosis from physiological phimosis. While physiologic phimosis consists of pliant, unscarred preputial orifice, true pathological phimosis is characterized by contracted white fibr...

Adrenal tumors in children

Adrenal tumors in children Adrenal gland is an important gland responsible for secreting various hormones required for normal body functioning. In pediatric age group the tumors of adrenal gland are rare which arise from adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla. These tumors account for less than 0.2% of all pediatric neoplasms and 1.3% of all carcinomas. The most common tumor of the adrenal gland in pediatric age group is neuroblastoma which arise from adrenal medulla , while  adrenal carcinoma and adenomas,  tumors of the adrenal cortex, are rare. Pheochromocytoma is a rare and very peculiar tumor of adrenal gland which causes hypertension. The advance adrenal malignant tumor has a poor prognosis. The adrenal tumorswhich secrete various hormones (called as functioning adrenal tumors) causes various symptoms such as high blood pressure, sweating, palpitation, and early puberty. The diagnostic work up includes imaging with computed tomography and magnetic resonance i...
