What is Choledochal Cyst and Symptoms of Choledochal Cyst?

 Choledochal cyst is a birth defect, characterized by the swelling or cystic transformation of the bile duct. The liver produces bile to digest food. Bile duct helps in transporting bile from the liver to the gall bladder and small intestines. In case of a choledochal cyst, due to the obstruction of drainage, passage of the bile is hampered, thereby causing pain, indigestion, jaundice. Child can repeated episodes of infection in bile duct characterised by fever, pain and jaundice. Early treatment of this condition, may reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis and bile duct cancer in adulthood. Choledochal cyst is a rare condition, as it’s presence is seen in only 1 out of 1,00,000-1,50,000 children in the western countries. Girls are 4 times more prone to it than boys. Kidney salvage surgery for renal tumors in children

  Kidney salvage surgery for renal tumors in children 4 year old child, presented with c/o mass in the right side of the abdomen noticed for the last 15 days which was gradually increasing in size. The child was evaluated and ultrasound and CECT abdomen was suggestive of large cystic right kidney mass of approx 10X8 cm, localized to the upper pole of the right kidney. The lower pole of the right kidney was spared. In view of the localized upper pole cystic tumor and imaging suggestive of benign lesion, the child was planned for renal sparing surgery along with frozen section biopsy. The child underwent excision of the tumor salvaging the lower part of the right kidney, the frozen section was suggestive of benign lesion. The biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of cystic nephroma, which is a very rare benign  kidney tumour in children .   What Is a Voiding Cystourethrogram? A voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG), also known as icturating cystourethrogram (MCU)is a radiological investigation for examination of urinary tract system. The study is used to visualize the urethra, urinary bladder and about the possibility of vesico ureteric reflux (VUR). When to do voiding cystourethrogram ? Recurrent urinary tract infections. Urinary tract infection in an infant. Suspected bladder outlet obstruction. Hydrouretronephrosis on ultrasound. Bilateral Hydronephrosis. The study is conducted under antibiotic cover and in fluoroscopic machine. Technique With all ascepic precautions, bladder is catheterized with a small lumen tube and filled with a liquid called as contrast (as per the normal bladder capacity).
